(More customer reviews)The first time I wore these shoes (during the 2 mile walk to work) I could really feel them engaging my muscles all along the back of my leg. Really they just make it so that you have to use more effort to propel yourself forward, unlike with regular walking and running shoes that are designed to make it easier. I wasn't sore the next day by any means, and I'm not really sure if you would actually ever see any difference to body composition or muscle "tone". With that in mind, I don't think they are worth $100+ dollars.
Also, they don't make them in any width variations, and usually I buy 7 1/2 W. I bought the 7 1/2 regular and they would fit perfect if not for my need for a wider forefoot. After about 1/2 a mile they start to pinch and hurt my right foot. I don't think I could wear them for any further than the 2 miles that I walk to work. If they came in wide I would probably be able to bump the rating to a 4, since then I could fairly judge comfort. Even without the width issue, you can feel the ball under the front of the shoe pushing up onto the ball of your foot with every step. It's not uncomfortable, but it is distracting and makes you very aware that there is something "off" about the shoe.
